Five Tips to Keep Nutrition Simple

Are you still keeping up with your 2016 #HealthGoals? Don’t complicate nutrition, keep it simple with these “no-brainer” tips from Nyree Dardarian, assistant clinical professor in the Nutrition Sciences Department and director of the Center for Integrated Nutrition, to take the focus off eating and make it more about your mood, feelings and environment.

  1. Like it. Share it. 

    Order the foods you like and eat with a friend and share the meal. This means you will eat only half the portion and save on half the calories. This can be fun, finding a friend to share a meal with daily, put the phone down and focus on your food and friendship.

     

  2. Eat in Peace.

    Don’t be in a rush. Sit down and BE with your meal. Researcher suggests that women eat substantially more when eating while distracted. So, set the mood, find a calm place to eat and be present when eating.

     

  3. Water doesn’t have to be cold, or boring.

    It is important to drink enough water, but that doesn’t mean it has to be drab. Drink hot peppermint tea, no sugar necessary, throughout the day. Hot water with lemon is another satisfying option. Not into hot water, add crushed fruit or herbs to your cold water. Put it in a fancy glass. Enjoy!

     

  4. Eat the rainbow.

    The more you can incorporate different fruits and vegetables into your diet, the more vitamins and nutrients you get. While spinach is great, forgetting to incorporate some tomatoes will leave you lacking in some important vitamins your body needs.

     

  5. Avoid Bar on the Go Syndrome!

Many protein and nutrition bars are not all they appear to be. Compare the nutrition facts label to a common candy bar, you will be shocked by the similarities. In addition to falling below the bar for health, these snacks are on-the-go. See tip #2.
