BAYADA Home Health Care Awards and Speaker Series Inaugural Lecture

The Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions launched The BAYADA Home Health Care Speaker Series with an inaugural lecture on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.  In-person and online audiences participated in a lecture presented by Stella Lucia Volpe, PhD, RD, LDN, FACSM, chair and professor, Department of Nutrition Sciences.  Her timely topic, “Obesity and Diabetes Prevention:  What Does the Research Say,” was well received.  

BAYADA AwardsThe 2015 Winners of the BAYADA Award for Technological Innovation in Health Care Practice affiliated with the Penn State Hershey Medical Center are Darla Marks, MSN, director of Clinical Informatics and a Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions alumna ’13 and Michael Ward, lead programmer analyst.  The 2015 winners of the BAYADA Award for Technological Innovation in Health Care Education hail from Duke University School of Nursing Center for Nursing Discovery include: Ms. Margory Molloy, MSN, director; Ryan Shaw, PhD, RN, assistant professor; and Jacqueline Vaughn, instructor and student in the Drexel MSN Nursing Education and Faculty Role Program.  Learn more about their winning proposals.

J. Mark and Ann Baiada, founder and president, and director, respectively, of BAYADA Home Health Care, have been generous supporters and good friends to Drexel Nursing and Health Professions.  Our relationship began in 2004 when Mark and Ann created the BAYADA Awards for Technological Innovation in Nursing Education and Practice.  Since then, BAYADA Nursing has evolved into BAYADA Home Health Care and the awards continue as the BAYADA Awards for Technological Innovation in Health Care Education and Practice.  Proposals from all health care professionals are now considered for two $10,000 prizes annually.  The Baiadas received honorary degrees from Drexel University in 2014.

BAYADA Home Health Care established the BAYADA Home Health Care Speaker Series at Drexel Nursing ad Health Professions in 2015.  It is anticipated that this be a three-time per year series of lectures that would serve to highlight a variety of topics, trends and leaders in health care.  The lectures will also serve as a platform for presentation of the BAYADA Awards annually, in Philadelphia in the spring, and to highlight the efforts of faculty research conducted at the College.
