Margo Orlin, PT, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, has been named a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association. The FAPTA designation is the highest honor among APTA's membership categories.  

Maureen Davey, PhD, LMFT, an associate professor in the Department of Couple and Family Therapy, Roberta Waite, EdD, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN, ANEF, an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Intergration and Evaluation of Coummunity Programs in the Department of Doctoral Nursing, Ana Nunez, MD, Associate Dean for Urban Health Equity, Education and Research, and Professor of Medicine at Drexel College of Medicine, and two former doctoral students, A. Nino and K. Kissil, published an article in the Journal of Cancer Education called “A Snapshot of Patients’ Perceptions of Oncology Providers’ Cultural Competence.”

Ting Liu, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Couple and Family Therapy, Maureen Davey, PhD, LMFT, an associate professor in the Department of Couple and Family Therapy, and L. Lynch presented “Helping Couples Cope with Cancer: Evaluation of Hold Me Tight” at the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association in Washington, DC.

Maureen Davey, PhD, LMFT, an associate professor in the Department of Couple and Family Therapy, Fay Young, MD, and B. Bilkins presented “Pilot Feasability study: Eliciting provider and patient perspective to help African American families cope with parental cancer” at the Palliative Care in Oncology Symposium in Boston, MA.

Donna H. Kaiser, PhD, ATR-BC, LPC, LMFT, an associate clinical professor and director of Art Therapy and Counseling in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies, has been named Executive Editor of Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association.

Jane Fedorczyk, PT, PhD, CHT, ATC, a clinical professor and director of Post-Professional Clinical Programs in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, presented at the American Association of Hand Surgery Annual Meeting held January 21-24 on Paradise Island, Bahamas.  Fedorczyk gave a keynote address as American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) President, titled “Embracing Technology in Hand Health.”  She also participated in a panel discussion titled “Pearls to Optimize Patient Outcomes” and participated in an instructional course titled “Ulnar Sided Wrist Pain: A Treatment Algorithm.”  All presentations were well received. 

Yasmine Awais, MAAT, ATR-BC, ATCS, LCAT, LPC, an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies, served as the guest speaker at the 2015 General Meeting of the New York Art Therapy Association on February 8, 2015 in White Plains, NY. Awais will speak on culture and its impact on the therapeutic relationship in art therapy.

Patricia Shewokis, PhD, a professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, has received a grant from the Helen S. Vernik Schizophrenia Pilot Research Project Grant Program, entitled “Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia using Optical Brain Imaging.” 

Nancy Gerber, PhD, ATR-BC, LPC, an associate clinical professor and director of the PhD Program in Creative Arts Therapies, presented at the Academy of Human Resource Development Conference in St. Louis, MO on February 19, 2015. Gerber was invited by colleagues Rajashi Ghosh, PhD and Toby Egan, PhD to present with them at a workshop on "Intersecting Mixed Methods Research Techniques and HRD Research Topics: A Winning Combination".  Gerber also participated on a panel with quantitative and qualitative scholars to discuss mixed methods philosophies, designs, methods and potential collaborations. The whole day was very well received and participants were energized by these new perspectives and possibilities!

Stephen Gambescia, PhD, Med, MBA, MHum, MCHES, a clinical professor in the Department of Health Administration, published the article “Teacher prep in using cinema in the classroom” in the Journal of Health Education Teaching Techniques. 1(4), 36-46.   Gambescia was also named Editor in Chief of The Society for Public Health Education’s latest peer-reviewed journal Pedagogy in Health Promotion: the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Joanne Schwartz, PhD, CRNP, CNE, an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Nursing, and Stephen Gambescia, PhD, Med, MBA, MHum, MCHES, a Clinical Professor in the Department of Health Administration, published the article “Makeup Exam Policy” in Nurse Educator. 

Donna Sabella, Med, MSN, PhD, CRNP, PMHNP-BC, an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Nursing and Director of Global Studies, spoke at an event organized by Students Against Sex Trafficking and Drexel’s Students Advocating Against Slavery about the trauma faced by survivors of sex trafficking.   Sabella also cofounded The Journal of Human Trafficking.  The first issue is due March 2015.  Sabella also serves as associate editor.
