2014 NURSE Corps Scholars

March 13, 2015

Congratulations, Kelly Barrameda and Kayla Camara:  2014 NURSE Corps Scholars at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions!

Year after year, Drexel Nursing and Health Professions’ students demonstrate their academic excellence and commitment to service through health care. Some of the brightest minds at your institution also apply their passion for nursing to help some of the most underserved communities in the country. Such is the case of the NURSE Corps Scholars.

In 2014, two students at Drexel Nursing and Health Professions were awarded the NURSE Corps Scholarship for their commitment to primary care:  Kelly Barrameda and Kayla Camara.  Both are enrolled in our 2nd Quarter the Accelerated Career Entry (ACE) BSN Option, an intensive nursing program for students who already have bachelors or graduate degrees.  Barrameda and Camara are scheduled to complete the program at the end of the summer quarter.

The scholarship enables students accepted or enrolled in a diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate nursing programs, including the RN to BSN Bridge Program, to receive funding for tuition, fees and other educational costs in exchange for working at an eligible Critical Shortage Facility upon graduation. Upon graduation, NURSE Corps Scholarship recipients work at these facilities for at least two years, earning the same competitive salary and benefits as any new hire.

The NURSE Corps Scholarship application process is highly competitive. The NURSE Corps received 2,467 applications from more than 700 schools across the country. Less than 10 percent of the applicants received the scholarship, and two of them came from Drexel.

Drexel Nursing and Health Professions ranked among the top 20 schools in terms of number of awardees. We congratulate these outstanding students and wish them all the best as they prepare to serve where they are needed most!

The 2015 NURSE Corps Scholarship Program application period is scheduled to open in March or April. For more information on the NURSE Corps, please visit: http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/nursecorps/
