In Memory of Wilbur Oaks, MD
June 25, 2015
Wilbur W. Oaks, Jr., MD, HU ’55, FACP, professor emeritus of medicine, passed away on June 13, at his home. A wonderful man, physician and teacher, Oaks was the former chairman of the Department of Medicine and professor at Hahnemann University. During his time as chairman of medicine, Oaks helped establish the Physician Assistant program, which is part of the College of Nursing and Health Professions today. He also served as a trustee of the Rubert Trust established by Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing alumna, Theresa Rubert and her spouse to support nursing scholarship.
More recently, he was the president of Rittenhouse Professional Associates, a Philadelphia medical practice. Oaks specialized in internal medicine and was once affiliated with Oaks, Miller, Boselli & Associates. During his career, he was the “doctor’s doctor” to many.
In 2013, Drexel University College of Medicine sat down with Oaks to reminisce on his 50 years here. This video truly encapsulates Oaks’ passion and dedication to Drexel University. In it, he fondly said, “I always love the students and the residents. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have the kids to teach."
All who knew Oaks, and especially his students, were most fortunate.
