75-year old Yardley Resident Earns Degree from Drexel

Young, fresh-faced students from Drexel's College of Nursing and Health Professions are getting ready to walk across the stage on Saturday and earn their diplomas. But one woman from Yardley will represent an older generation of life-long learners at the commencement ceremony this weekend.

Marie Magee, 75, will receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Philadelphia university -- an accomplishment that's been a long time coming for this particular septuagenarian.

"I have always wanted to attain my BSN," said Magee, who has worked as an emergency department nurse for most of her life, including positions with Aria-Torresdale Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne.

But raising her three children became Magee's top priority, and she put her higher education goals on the back burner. Once her children finished with their schooling, Magee was able to focus on getting back to her own goals.
