Family Nurse Practitioner Student Receives Scholarship to Better Serve Families
September 11, 2014
“I thank God every day for being blessed and privileged to
have great teachers and amazing mentors at Drexel. Thank you for everything you
do,” wrote George Donavos in reaction to learning that he was named a recipient
of WellSpan Health’s Bev Malloy Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,500.
Donavos is currently enrolled in the post-master’s Family Nurse Practitioner
Program at Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions.
“I’m interested in expanding my knowledge base to include
care of the pediatric population, as well as the family as a whole, which will
tremendously help in serving the chronic and emergency needs of the York area
population,” he said. Donavos’ interest in entering the field of nursing was
piqued by a personal family matter.
Donavos is one of three winners this year. He works as a
Nurse Practitioner at the WellSpan York Hospital Emergency Department located
in York, Pennsylvania.
Administered by the York Health Foundation, the
Bev Malloy Memorial Nursing Scholarship was named for Beverly Malloy, a nurse
who served her community with immense care and compassion during her more than 40
years in affiliation with York Hospital. The scholarship is supported by
charitable contributions through the Foundation and is distributed each year to
WellSpan Health employees or volunteers selected on the basis of demonstrated
kindness and compassion through their interactions, their articulation of a
special concentrated interest in nursing, and their commitment to serving the
York and Adams communities.
