If you’re looking for advice on building a successful career in nursing, look no further than Gloria Donnelly’s Lessons for a Career, a serious tip list with a cheeky twist. When you read the article, which was recently published by the Nurses Service Organization (NSO), the dean’s signature humor paired with genuine recommendations will have you laughing and taking notes.

Donnelly serves as Dean and as a professor of the Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions. She has held appointments in the nursing schools at the University of Pennsylvania, Trenton State College, and Villanova University and was the first Dean of Nursing at LaSalle University, MCP Hahnemann University, and Drexel University. Donnelly speaks on the national level about nursing education and is the author of four textbooks, the winner of two American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards, and is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Holistic Nursing Practice.

What have all of these professional chapters taught our College’s leader? “Don’t be stupid,” she writes in her article. Her two cents on career success also include tips such as reading outside of your field, Googling yourself occasionally, and not taking yourself too seriously! Her eight recommendations transcend the nursing profession and can be applied to just about any career.
