Nyree Dardarian, a professor in the Nutrition Sciences Department, was named a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She joins an elite group of only 376 total Fellows in an organization of 72,000. In Pennsylvania alone, there are just 25 fellows.
On November 14, Stella Volpe, PhD was presented with the Honor Award from the New England American College of Sports Medicine for her research, service, and teaching. It is the highest award given by the organization.
Jennifer Quinlan, PhD, an associate professor in the Nutrition Sciences Department, was appointed to the Editorial Board of the journal, Food Protection Trends. Her presentation, “Access to food safety recommendations for the elderly on the worldwide web,” was accepted for the Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association in Boston in November 2013.
Nutrition Sciences students Alicia Askis, Molly Biehl, Lareina Lee, Lauren Carver, and Kelsey Vierow became Registered Dietitians.
Jonathan Deutsch, PhD, (professor and Director of the Drexel Center for Hospitality & Sport Management) and Rohan Tikekar, PhD, (assistant professor of Food Science at Drexel) each received courtesy appointments with the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
Alison Cutts, a current student in the Accelerated Career Entry (ACE) nursing program, was recently selected as a recipient of the Margaret Aiken Scholarship, which is awarded for academic achievement. She was selected based upon her application essay to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Cutts acknowledges the help of her academic advisor, Peggy Breslin.
