In 2013, Donna Sabella, PhD, authored a chapter of the book Sex Trafficking: A Clinical Guide for Nurses, which was just named an American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Book of the Year Award recipient in the Community-Public Health category. The AJN lauds the authors for addressing, “such a wide scope of complex issues surrounding sex trafficking. It includes sensitively documented case studies that are critical to a better understanding of our clinical roles and responsibilities.”

Her chapter, titled Health Issues and Interactions with Adult Survivors, addresses the emotional and physical health issues that sex trafficked individuals present with, and how nurses can work with adult victims to support and treat them. Sabella recently received a message from Georgia State Senator Renee Unterman, who plans to acknowledge the award through a Senate Resolution. She requested a copy of the book.

Sabella is the Director of Global Studies at the College of Nursing and Health Professions and serves as an assistant clinical professor of nursing.
