Tip for a Healthier U: Snack Swap

Motivation Monday

Monday is your chance for a fresh start. After a weekend of indulging in that extra slice of pizza, we are probably practicing the common art of self-loathing on that dreaded Monday morning. Instead of feeling food guilt, leave that negative energy behind and focus on eating whole foods that help revitalize your mind and body.

Monday is the time to have “food amnesia” by moving forward from those less healthy food choices you may have made over the weekend and kick off your Monday with smart snacking choices. Replacing an over-processed snack with a more nutritious option will give your body the fuel it needs to begin your week of studies with a clear mind.

Have you had your daily serving of fruit yet?

Swap out that sugary, preservative-laden granola bar for an apple with natural peanut butter or almond butter. The apple provides you with a great source of vitamin C and antioxidants, while the peanut butter contains protein and a healthy source of fat.

Have you had your daily servings of veggies yet?

In addition to those pretzels, add some carrot sticks dipped in hummus. Carrots are a nutritious alternative to pretzels by providing fiber as a complex carbohydrate. Hummus, a dip made from chickpeas, comes in a variety of flavors and provides protein to keep you full and satisfied. It’s a great protein-fiber combo!

Craving chocolate?

Instead of eating a processed candy bar that spikes your blood sugar, opt for a piece of dark chocolate with almonds instead. Did you know that dark chocolate is an antioxidant powerhouse?

Need a caffeine boost?

Instead of grabbing a soda, choose tea or plain coffee with low-fat milk, which contain none of the preservatives and sugar of soda. Tea is chock full of flavonoids and minerals.

Have a sweet tooth?

Drop the skittles and pick up dried cherries and raisons. High in fiber and antioxidants, dried fruit is a convenient snack when you’re on the go.

Find yourself in a salty mood?

A great alternative to greasy potato chips is popcorn with olive oil and sea salt. You still get that salty crunch you are craving, but with less fat and more fiber.

Plan ahead with healthy snacks for your busy day.

LÄRABARs and KIND Bars contain protein and whole food ingredients. Homemade trail mix is less expensive and tailored to the foods you like.

Food for thought…

Did you know that LÄRABARs have no more than nine ingredients? It’s true! Natural fruits, nuts, and spices make LÄRABAR a perfect on-the-go snack.
