2014 BSN graduate Andrew Wegoye, an Emergency Room nurse at Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury, New Jersey, has been in Liberia working to contain the Ebola outbreak there since mid-November. Wegoye's own words about his experience there so far were featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer on December 14. "The cloud of the epidemic still hangs over the city [of Monrovia]," Wegoye said.

On October 17, U.S. News and World Report published an article, “Study Abroad as an Online Student,” in which Drexel Nursing alumnus Kevin Hannon, BSN ’13, was featured. Hannon took an online community health course taught by faculty at the College of Nursing and Health Professions that culminated in a trip to Paraguay.

Nyree Dardarian ‘06, a professor in the College’s Nutrition Sciences Program, arranged a visit between Philadelphia-based restaurateur Han Chiang and the Drexel men’s basketball team. Chiang, who owns the Han Dynasty restaurants, taught players about customs and etiquette prior to their trip to China. The story was covered by The Metro on August 18.

Innocent Onwubiko, BSN ’13, organized a stadium display by the Nigerian soccer team, nicknamed the Super Eagles, at the PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. The Nigerian players came out to the field escorted by children with cards emblazoned with “#Bring Back Our Girls. Stand Against Terrorism.” It was a message about the 238 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants who attacked their school in northern Nigeria. The match was broadcast on sports networks in Africa and nearly every other continent, and streamed online. A spokeswoman for Major League Soccer said it was the first time she had seen player escorts used to send a political message. Onwubiko of Upper Darby was born in Nigeria and came to the United States in 2000. He is the founder of Successful Aging Home Health, an agency that trains and supplies home health aides.  In an interview, he said he is an avid fan of the Super Eagles, and hosted a private party for the team at the stadium after the game.
