Kristine Mulhorn, PhD, an associate professor and Chair of the Health Services Administration Department, was awarded a specialist grant in Sociology by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State, and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, to travel to Dalian Maritime University in Dalian, China.

From June 21 through July 7, 2014, Mulhorn visited Dalian Maritime University, located east of Beijing, to give lectures on aging, measurement of functioning, long-term care, and other related topics. The University has a strong interest in U.S. health policy as well as long-term care and pensions in other Asian countries. Mulhorn met with students to answer their individual questions, gave a salon-format lecture on Aging and Demography in the U.S. and Asia, and presented on health care reform in the U.S.

Mulhorn gave a presentation to the Fulbright Office in Washington, DC on July 24, 2014. She remarked on the “generous, attentive, and warm-hearted hosts,” the beautiful new apartment in which she stayed during the 17-day visit, the high-tech classrooms at the Chinese university, and the visits she made to the harbor and a traditional Chinese hot pot restaurant. Mulhorn was even invited to return to Dalian Maritime University again in the future.
