The Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) recently selected 76 nurse practitioner (NP) leaders for induction into the FAANP in June 2014. The new FAANP members will continue the tradition of impacting national and global health through their outstanding contributions. Among them is Kymberlee Montgomery, Chair of the Nurse Practitioner Program at Drexel.

The AANP honored this year’s FAANP inductees at a ceremony followed by a soiree on Thursday, June 19, 2014, during the AANP National Conference at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

The AANP established the FAANP program in 2000 to recognize NP leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education, or policy. Fellows of the AANP are visionaries and, as such, hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and health care. The new Fellows will continue to demonstrate leadership and contribute to the mission of the AANP.

Montgomery is also an actively practicing board certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in HPV and cervical cancer in women. She is the first nursing faculty to hold a secondary appointment with the Drexel University College of Medicine.  Montgomery lectures both nationally and internationally on providing evidence-based care and educational services to underserved women and is passionate about the promotion of interprofessional education (IPE) and collaboration to improve quality of patient care, improve safety, and decrease medical error. She is an active member of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners,  the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Sigma Theta Tau International. She also serves as an Ambassador for The American Conversation about Women and Leadership Vision 20/20 and is a Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy Fellow sponsored by Sigma Theta Tau International.
