Jennifer Quinlan, PhD, associate professor of Nutrition Sciences at Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, recently published an article entitled “Foodborne Illness Incidence Rates and Food Safety Risks for Populations of Low Socioeconomic Status and Minority Race/Ethnicity: A Review of the Literature” in The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. In it, Quinlan includes evidence of illness rates from specific food-borne illnesses and food safety practices in minority groups, and comments on retail food safety. Quinlan asserts a lack of current research on food-borne illness and hopes to examine the current state of food-borne illness and food safety risks for minority and low socioeconomic populations, specifically in the United States and in Europe.
