On October 8, a delegation from the country of Oman, a country situated in southwest Asia, visited the Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions to discuss our nursing programs and research. The group included Salem Said Jaroof Al Touby, PhD, Dean of the Oman Nursing Institute, Majid Rashid Humaid Al-Maqbali, PhD, Director of Nursing Affairs, Said Amer Said Al Ghenaimi, PhD, a tutor at the Oman Nursing Institute, Esra Khasawneh, PhD, Assistant Dean at Sultan Qaboos University, Yousef Ahmed Yousef Alweshahi, PhD, of the Oman Medical Specialty Board, Moustafa Fahmy Mohamed, PhD, Dean of Oman Assistant Pharmacy Institute, and Abdullah Rashid Al-Battashi, PhD, the Dean of A’Dahira Nursing Institute.

“The group was here to explore what a number of nursing programs in the United States are doing regarding curricula and program design,” said Donna Sabella, PhD, Director of Global Studies at the College. “They were also interested in exploring the possibility of conducting research and student-faculty exchanges.”

Lew Bennett, Chair of the Nurse Anesthesia Department, served as host and coordinator during the day of their visit to the College. He first brought the Omani visitors to a Meet and Greet with Dean Gloria Donnelly and Faye Meloy, PhD. Next, the group discussed potential faculty and student exchanges with Becky Hollm, Andrea Perry and Rocky Rockstraw, PhD, and Jeannine Uribe, PhD. After touring the Simulation Labs and 3 Parkway facilities, the delegation discussed research projects with Associate Dean for Research Susan Smith, PhD, and Elizabeth Gonzalez, PhD, Chair of the Doctoral Nursing Program. The Omani visitors finished their morning at the CNHP with a discussion about curriculum and programs with Fran Cornelius, PhD, Chair of the Advanced Role MSN Department, Joanne Schwartz, PhD, a clinical assistant professor of Nursing, and Deanna Schaffer, Chair of the BSN Co-op Program.
