Stella Volpe Imparts Obesity Knowledge in England and Brazil
October 1, 2013
Stella Volpe, PhD, professor and Chair of the Department of Nutrition Sciences, gave two keynote lectures, one in Brazil and the other in England. On August 30, she presented her research, “Obesity and Diabetes Prevention across the Lifespan,” at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil. “They hosted a special conference and wanted to learn more about my research,” Volpe said. “I hope the audience gained a sense of my research in obesity and diabetes prevention.”
On September 4, Volpe again presented her research on obesity and diabetes, this time at the British Association for Sport and Exercise Sciences’ national conference in Preston, England. “I highlighted two of my more recent studies: portion control in the university setting to prevent freshmen weight gain, and the magnesium and metabolic syndrome and diabetes prevention trial,” she explained.
Volpe feels blessed to be able to travel to many different countries and share her knowledge with others. This was her third time traveling to Brazil, a country in which she is “very comfortable” and especially enjoys the people. September also marked her third trip to England. “I enjoy their cooler weather and also really enjoy the countryside and the people,” she concluded.
