Updates from the Center City Student Advisory Board
November 13, 2013
On November 6, the College of Nursing and Health Profession’s Center City Student Advisory Board met to talk about topics such as the recent Family Weekend event, Studypalooza, Student Orientation, the new Health Professions Dinner and Discussion events, the Dean’s Town Hall Meeting, the opening of the LGBTQ Center on Main Campus, and several other campus-wide events and changes. Phi Nguyen, Director of Student Affairs for the Center City Campus, led the meeting.
On December 6 from 4pm-7pm, Studypalooza will take over the entire first floor of the New College Building in Center City. Our own Robert Chapman, PhD, an associate clinical professor in the Behavioral Health Counseling Department, will host the evening’s events. It will serve as a chance for current CNHP students to come together and benefit from several of the resources available to them during study period, including massages, tutors, peer counseling, C.H.O.I.C.E.S representative John Watson, and even an online virtual bar where students will learn about blood alcohol levels and how to make safe and responsible decisions.
At the Advisory Board meeting, student representative Lakira Williams spoke about tentative changes that may be made based on the Dean’s recent Town Hall meeting. One of those changes could include adaptations to the bus route between the Center City and University City campuses to make the trip more efficient for students.
The board was updated on the successful breast cancer awareness month fundraising, the moving and powerful Great Works Symposium exhibition in the New College Building Library, and the week 5 midterm “Wake Me Up” event, where students took breaks from midterm studying and were provided with food and coffee. The board also proposed ways in which events such as Family Weekend can be better marketed to members of the Drexel community.
The next Advisory Board meeting will take place on January 13, 2014.
