Student Voices: Networking Event Allows CNHP Graduate Students to Meet Peers Across Disciplines

December 2, 2013

by Ericka Hall, Graduate Assistant, Student Affairs Center City

Grad Event 1On behalf of the Office of Student Affairs, Center City Office, we decided to host a networking event to foster interactions between graduate students at Drexel, while also creating awareness about the Office and the work that we do. Often as a graduate student it is fairly easy to become immersed in your program and the people you see and are with all of the time.

We decided to have this event in a social setting to help alleviate any feelings of forced interactions. We hosted the event at Ladder 15 in Center City. About 45 1st and 2nd year graduate students from across disciplines attended. Everyone loved the food, environment, and the opportunity to just interact with different people.

Grad Event 2We created groups and hosted a trivia game, which allowed everyone to work together with their group to answer questions about the 90s and about the history of Philadelphia. We had 1st and 2nd place winners who enjoyed their awesome prizes! At the end of the event, we had several students mention their intentions to stop by the Office and say hello, and even more students thanking us for hosting the event. Several students asked, “are you going to do this again next term?” and I was excitedly able to answer “of course we will, and it will be even better!”
