Redian Furxhiu Receives Professional Staff Award and United States Commemorative Flag
December 2, 2013
Congratulations to Redian Furxhiu, a senior academic advisor for the MSN Advanced Role Department, who received a 2013 Distance Learning Award. He was recognized by the University for his achievements in a ceremony on November 12, where he was presented with the Outstanding Online Professional Staff Award. The awards coincided with National Distance Learning Week.
Furxhiu’s dedication to his advisees is evident by their successes and by the gestures they make to thank him for his support and guidance. Furxhiu was astounded when one of his students, Captain Reginald T. Brown of the United States Air Force, flew a Commemorative United States Flag over Afghanistan in his honor in May 2012. Furxhiu had helped Captain Brown, a nurse and a pilot, complete the MSN Program during multiple deployments, which was challenging for both student and advisor. “I was surprised and grateful,” Furxhiu remembered. “It’s just an amazing gift, I think.”
Furxhiu now keeps the flag and corresponding certificate of authenticity in his office as a reminder of this student’s hard work and determination to complete the program, despite the present challenges. Furxhiu loves his work as an academic advisor and has expressed deep appreciation for the award that he received in mid-November. “The award is not just for me,” Furxhiu said. “This goes to the entire advising team. We all help each other and it is a great collaborative environment.”
