DrNP student Jean Logan was published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine for her article, Exploring Public Attitudes Towards Approaches to Discussing Costs in the Clinical Encounter. The article’s objective was to explore public attitudes toward doctor-patient discussions of insurer and out-of-pocket costs and to examine whether several possible communication strategies might enhance patient receptivity to discussing costs with their physicians. She believes that the article demonstrates the value of the DrNP practicum to fellow doctoral candidates, and that it would likely also be an interesting read for medical students.
The article is the result of Logan’s practicum at the NIH Department of Bioethics, an opportunity she secured with the help of “the amazing network of faculty at the Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions.” She says that the reputation of these individuals combined with the high quality education she has received at CNHP allowed her to contribute in a meaningful way to the project
“I am grateful Drexel provided me the opportunity to develop my skills in such a meaningful way. I have also benefited from the ongoing relationships that have developed with my co-authors,” Logan said.
