This September, pick up a copy of Art As Research, a new book about art-based research, and you will see a chapter written by Nancy Gerber, PhD, with Elizabeth Templeton and PhD students from CNHP’s Creative Arts Therapies Program. The soon to be published volume evolved out of a special issue of the Journal of Applied Arts and Health that was published last year.

“We are in very esteemed company, as you will see as you review the other chapters and authors,” said Gerber, an associate clinical professor and the Director of the PhD Program in Creative Arts Therapies. Art As Research was edited by Shaun McNiff, who contributed several chapters to the book himself.

“It’s really an honor to be included in this book edited by Shaun McNiff, one of the founders of the field of art-based research,” said Gioia Chilton, one of the PhD candidates who contributed to the chapter called Art-based research as a pedagogical approach to studying intersubjectivity in the creative arts therapies. “As a scholar in this area, it is not only personally gratifying to have our work included, but thrilling to be part of a rapidly burgeoning community of arts-based researchers, many of which are represented in this volume.” She went on to express her gratitude for Gerber’s leadership in the writing process.

Chilton’s peers, PhD candidates Marcia Cohen Liebman, Elizabeth Manders and Minjung Shim, were also co-authors of the chapter, along with Elizabeth Templeton, an clinical assistant professor in the Creative Arts Therapies Department.
