You may know Jane Fedorczyk, PhD, as an associate clinical professor or as the Director of Post-Professional Clinical programs in the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences Department. You may know her as the primary instructor for the Advanced Practice Certificate in Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation and hand concentrations or perhaps in her role as the Vice President of the American Society of Hand Therapists. But did you know that she laced up her running shoes and tackled her first half marathon earlier this month?

In addition to practicing and teaching yoga, Fedorczyk now dedicates some of her time to training for distance races, and for an admirable cause. She completed the Philadelphia Half Marathon on November 18 in honor of her father, Felix Mangiarelli, who recently passed away from Mantle Cell Lymphoma. Fedorczyk raised funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training, contributing a total of $3,885 to the organization and far surpassing her fundraising goal of $1,300 in her first week. Fedorczyk also commemorated the lives of three other individuals—Norm Parker, Donna Uroskie, and Margaret Harris—by attaching photographs and name tags to the shirt she wore during the half marathon. Donna Uroskie, mother of Kristin Uroskie Lewis (MPT ’00) and Norm Parker, spouse of Nancy Neff Parker (MPT ’97), both died from Multiple Myeloma. Margaret Harris lost her battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma like Fedorczyk’s father.

The Art Museum provided the quintessential Philadelphia backdrop as she crossed the finish line. “Once I can run a full half marathon then I will think about training for a full marathon. For now, my next event is the Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Walk on December 8!” she said. Fedorczyk appreciates the generous donations and outpour of support from not only her department but also from the entire college.
