Stella Volpe is Nominated to American College of Sports Medicine’s Committee

Philadelphia, PA, April 4, 2011

Stella Volpe, PhD, chair of the Nutrition Sciences Department, was nominated to serve on the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) Pediatrics Committee by committee Chair, Felipe Lobelo, MD, PhD and EIM President Robert Sallis, MD. EIM, a multi-organizational initiative coordinated by the American College of Sports Medicine, is focused on encouraging primary care physicians and other health care providers to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients.

EIM is committed to the belief that exercise and physical activity are integral to the prevention and treatment of chronic disease and should be regularly assessed as part of medical care. Along with the National Physical Activity Plan, Exercise is Medicine strives to make physical activity a "vital sign" that is routinely assessed at every patient interaction with a health care provider.

The committee's aim is to advance science and implementation activities for EIM in the Pediatric/child care setting.
