Credit Overload Policy

Overview

Students are permitted to up to 20 credits (undergraduate) and 12 credits (graduate) without securing permission. This policy outlines the steps to obtain permission for a credit overload in CCI.

Undergraduate Students 

Students who wish to enroll in more than the maximum number of credits allowed in a term need official permission from the College of Computing & Informatics. A credit overload consists of more than 20 credits Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer terms. To request an overload students’ must provide a statement of rationale, plan of study, and meet with their advisor. If there are no pending incomplete grades (INC) or grades not submitted (GNS), the advisor will consult with the Director of Advising who will make the final decision. If approved, any credits registered over the 20 maximum credits limit will be billed on per-credit basis. Students must meet with Drexel Central to discuss the financial impact.

Review for the credit overload should be submitted by week 10 of the prior term for which the student is requesting an overload. Requests cannot be considered after the first week of the subsequent term. First-year students are not eligible to request a credit overload.

Graduate Students

Students who wish to enroll in more than the maximum number of credits allowed in a term need official permission from the College of Computing & Informatics. A credit overload consists of more than 9 credits Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer terms. To request an overload students’ must provide a statement of rationale, plan of study, and meet with their advisor. If there are no pending incomplete grades (INC) or grades not submitted (GNS), the advisor will consult with the Assistant Dean of Academic Advising and Student Success for a final decision. Student registration over 9 credits, without approval, will be subject to adjustments by the College. If approved, any credits registered over the 9 maximum credits limit will be billed on per-credit basis. Students must meet with Drexel Central to discuss the financial impact.
