BIOMED Hosts the 6th Annual Immune Modulation & Engineering Symposium (IMES 2024) November 16, 2024 The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems successfully hosted the three-day 6th Annual Immune Modulation and Engineering Symposium (IMES 2024), which took place November 13-15, 2024 at The Study Hotel, Philadelphia, PA. The event included a student poster session and reception in Drexel's Behrakis Hall. This is the only conference dedicated to convergent research in translational immunology and engineering, with more than 250 participants attending, including virtual attendees. IMES 2024 featured trailblazing research engineers and scientists working to advance the field of immune engineering from industry, academia, biomedical engineering, and basic and translational immunology. The speakers and attendees represented leaders in this field, with demonstrated expertise in collaborating across disciplines to generate innovative solutions to treat disease and injury by modulating the immune system. The symposium was established at Drexel in 2019 by Kara Spiller, PhD, URBN Professor of Biomedical Innovation, who chaired the symposium and is a leading researcher studying the immune system’s interaction with bone and tissue scaffolding to facilitate injury and wound healing. Other participating BIOMED faculty members included Chris Rodell, PhD, assistant professor and conference vice chair; Yinghui Zhong, PhD, professor and conference committee member; and Xiao Huang, PhD, assistant professor and conference committee member. Other conference committee members included Gabriele Romano, PhD; Michele Kutzler, PhD; and Peter Gaskill, PhD, all from Drexel's College of Medicine, as well as Hao Cheng, PhD; and Peter Deak, PhD, both from Drexel's College of Engineering.
