Dr. Wan Shih, associate professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, and her colleagues developed the technology for the iBreastExam, an intelligent hand-held breast examination device that led to UE LifeSciences partnering with GE Healthcare to expand the intelligent BreastExam (iBE™) device to more than 25 countries and 500 million women. With over 42,000 votes from around the world, the iBE™ won the 2017 Aspirin Social Innovation Award.
