Aram Han Sifuentes: Messages to Our Neighbors

DAP

Pearlstein Gallery, October 2, 2023

Drexel’s Pearlstein Gallery announces the opening of two collaborative exhibitions that reimagine systems of empowerment through critically engaged action.

Opening October 2 at Drexel’s Pearlstein Gallery, You Are A(nti)-Racist features graphics, publications, and digital media by DAP (Design as Protest) Collective, a group of designers dedicated to design justice. Projects in the exhibition reframe and reclaim design as a tool for protest in collective liberation rather than violence and oppression.

To complement works by DAP Collective, large-scale photographs of Aram Han Sifuentes’s collaborative project Messages to Our Neighbors are also on view at the Pearlstein Gallery. Sifuentes worked with high school youth in the Mural Arts Education program to create billboards exploring the intersection of citizenship, immigration, and belonging.

About Design as Protest: Design as Protest is a collective of designers mobilizing strategy to dismantle the privilege and power structures that use architecture and design as tools of oppression. https://www.dapcollective.com/

About Aram Han Sifuentes:  Aram Han Sifuentes (she/they) is a social practice and fiber artist, writer, and educator who works to center immigrant and disenfranchised communities. She confronts social and racial injustices against the disenfranchised and riffs off official institutions and bureaucratic processes to reimagine new, inclusive, and humanized systems of civic engagement and belonging.

The Pearlstein Gallery is located at 3401 Filbert Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Gallery exhibitions are free and open to the public.
