Drexel STEM majors can earn a minor in STEM Education and grade 7-12 teaching certification while completing their degree program and co-op experience. Completing the minor/and or certification is not required to enroll in DragonsTeach courses. All students that enroll are required to complete clearances as per Drexel policies.

DragonsTeach courses follow Drexel University course registration guidelines. Students can find courses by following the steps below:

• Visit the Term Master Schedule
• Select the appropriate term for registration
• Click on the “School of Education”
• Click on “STEM Teacher Education” to view courses

Introductory Courses

DragonsTeach introductory courses (ESTM 201 and ESTM 210) fulfill:

• General elective credits
• Civic engagement hours

ESTM 302 and ESTM 303 fullfil writing intensive course credit

Minor

The STEM Education Minor can be completed with or without pursuing teacher certification. The minor includes 22 credits of STEM Education coursework, including two introductory courses, ten credits of STEM Education Core coursework, a history of science or mathematics course, a science research methods course, and a special education course.

Teaching Certification

Students choosing to pursue teacher certification will complete an additional 15-18 credits on top of the minor requirements (depending on the area of certification). Additional credits include special education and adaptation courses, a Functions and Modeling course (only required for students getting certified in Mathematics), and Apprentice Teaching.

Apprentice Teaching

Apprentice Teaching is a 12-week student teaching experience that exposes students to the day-to-day responsibilities of the professional middle or high school STEM teacher and demonstrates the competencies needed for certification. In addition to extensive fieldwork, student teachers meet as a group for a weekly seminar. This opportunity can be combined with co-op and Master Teachers work with the students to identify an ideal time in their academic career to complete this experience.
