Fashion in Film

March 9, 2016

From Mia Wallace's trendsetting vampy look (Uma Thurman, Pulp Fiction) to the transformative embrace of Afrocentric youth fashion in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, the latest issue of the Journal of Culture & Retail explores the diverse impacts of fashion in film. The undergraduate research, fashion, retail and merchandising journal features peer-reviewed articles written by Design & Merchandising students Eugenia Santeliz, Nathan Ersumo, Zoe Greenhall and Carly Shapiro, with student editor Haley Peckman.

Articles include a discussion of the symbolism of Theirry Mugler’s little black dress in Indecent Proposal and an exploration of gothic subculture as revived in Beetlejuice. This is the first time that all student contributors had the opportunity to participate in a peer-review process of written research.

Volume 7 Issue 1 was edited by Design & Merchandising professor Joe Hancock, who has worked on the journal since 2008, and published in conjunction with Drexel’s Hagerty Libraries, the Design & Merchandising Program and the Pennoni Honors College.
