Trisha Brown: Nuts and Bolts

April 13, 2016

On Friday, April 29th, our Dance Program will host the Pennsylvania Ballet’s rehearsal of O Zlozony/O Composite, a piece by the iconic post-modernist American choreographer, Trisha Brown. In an open studio lecture and demonstration, choreographer and former Trisha Brown dancer, Stephen Petronio, will guide the Pa. Ballet company in learning the unique and distinct movements of Brown’s choreography. Trisha Brown was a founding member of the avant-garde Judson Dance Theatre and her own Trisha Brown Dance Company. This will be the first time a professional American ballet company has performed Brown’s postmodernist work. This all day event will take place at 418 Main Building Dance Studio with a lecture from 4:30-6:30pm, free and open to the public.

In 1991 Brown was a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Award, in 2011 the Dorothy and Lillian Gist Prize, and in 2012 the United States Artists Fellow award. Her choreography has been performed at major venues around the world including the Walker Art Center, the Museum of Modern Art, the Serralves Foundation, and the Paris Opera Ballet among others.

Nuts and Bolts is part of a year long retrospective facilitated by Bryn Mawr College and supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Visit the project’s website for more information about upcoming Trisha Brown: In The New Body events.
