Andrea Modica at the PMA
March 09, 2016
Photography professor Andrea Modica, whose work has been featured in the New Yorker, Newsweek, American Photo and the cover of the New York Times Magazine, will be in discussion at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Wednesday, March 30 at 6:30pm. During the talk, “Nothing is Disappearing Here,” she’ll discuss her recent work and new book with acclaimed photographer Larry Fink, who edited Andrea’s book, As We Wait. Peter Barberie, Brodsky Curator of Photographs at the Alfred Stieglitz Center, will moderate the talk, which takes place in the PMA’s Honickman Gallery and will be followed by a book signing.
Published by L’Artiere Editions, Italy, As We Wait is a monograph of Modica’s previously unpublished photographs. Modica creates work using an 8X10” view camera and platinum-palladium printing, a 19th century hand-coated printing process, which she teaches to her students. Her photographs are exhibited internationally and her work is in many prominent collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She is a Guggenheim Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar, a Knight Award winner and the recipient of many other prestigious awards both for her fine art and editorial work.
