Latenight @ Drexel

February 17, 2015

The Latenight Series (LNS) is an eclectic open-mic hybrid event run by Westphal’s Music Industry and Entertainment & Arts Management students. Every Thursday, anyone interested in claiming a five-minute performance slot—whether for music, comedy, poetry, or dramatic monologues—can sign up at 8:00pm for the 8:30pm show, which is free and open to all ages (Creese Commuter Lounge, 32 & Chestnut Streets).  As a forum for student artists and local performers, LNS features headlining acts of both Drexel students as well as artists from around the region. This Thursday night, February 19, Americana singer/songwriter Mikey Sweet will take the stage as the night’s featured guest.

LNS seeks to support student artists and to develop and foster the performing arts in the Philadelphia and Drexel communities. LNS launched in 2002 at Mercer County Community College in New Jersey to provide artists with a forum to promote their material and reach an audience in a relaxed, supportive and professional environment.  A second LNS was started at Drexel in 2006 to expand that effort. Theatere Professor Nick Anselmo provides supervision for the series, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary at Drexel next year. The group has released two “Best Of” compilation CDs of LNS highlights over the years. Click here for the roster of upcoming headliners.
