Coffee and Jazz

4/12/2012 12:00:00 AM

On Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th, Drexel’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Naturally Sharp, will present Coffee and Jazz. This annual concert will be held in the CityView room on the 6th floor of MacAlisterHall at 8 PM. As the sun sets on the Philadelphia skyline, Naturally Sharp will perform a diverse selection of big band standards along with jazz favorites. Audiences can enjoy the concert while dining on complimentary dessert bars and gourmet cookies, along with coffee, tea, and lemonade. Tickets to this event are $7 and will be sold at the door.

This year’s performance features an eclectic array of artists and songs including George and Ira Gershwin’s, “They Can’t Take That Away from Me”; Arlen and Harburg’s, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”; and John Mercer’s, “Something’s Gotta Give”, along with other favorites by Cole Porter, Iriving Berlin, and Count Basie. Naturally Sharp is an auditioned group of 15 singers that perform in formal eveningwear. The group performs “anything that swings”, with songs selected from the last 100 years of vocal jazz favorites.
