Rebecca Elias Abboud, 2011 graduate of the Drexel Westphal’s MS in Television & Media Management, received a 2021 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for her work on Miracle Baby: A Uterus Transplant Story. The 30-minute documentary, produced for Penn Medicine, won in the Long Form Content/Single Story or Program category at the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards ceremony held on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Rebecca worked on Miracle Baby as co-director, and shares the award with Director Matt Curran, Producer/Editor Don Mitchell, Producer Scott Whitham, Editor Jon Cheifet, Production Coordinator Carmella Giaccio-Salas, and Production Assistant Alex Preto. Congratulations to Rebecca, the team at Penn Medicine, and the Television & Media Management program!

Miracle Baby is the story of Jen Gobrecht, who, after learning she’d been born without a fully-formed uterus (a condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, or MRKH), undergoes a uterus transplant in the hopes of carrying a pregnancy. The documentary follows Jen and her husband Drew through the entire journey—from preparing for the transplant procedure to pregnancy and ultimately delivering a healthy baby.
