Each class of medical students nominates and votes on faculty and residents to receive a Golden Apple. Since first- and second-year students are divided into two sections (Interdisciplinary Foundations of Medicine (IFM) and Program for Integrated Learning (PIL)), those classes present two awards each. Two non-faculty awards are given to honor staff for outstanding services to the student body and the College. The Golden Apple for a non-faculty member is voted on by the entire student body. The Special Recognition Award is voted on by the Student Government Association.
This occasion also allowed medical students to say goodbye to Samuel Parrish, MD, associate dean of student affairs and admissions, who is leaving the College at the end of the school year. He was given a special plaque commemorating his service, as well as the Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Services to the Student Body.
