Questions and Offers at Meeting on Enterovirus

At a public meeting Sunday night, more than 100 people sought answers after the death of a 4-year-old boy was blamed on a microbe called enterovirus D68, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The handful of fatal cases are a reminder that respiratory illnesses, whatever the cause, can be serious, said Esther Chernak, MD, MPH, FACP, an infectious-disease physician who directs the Center for Public Health Readiness and Communication and is an Associate Research Professor in the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health at Drexel University's School of Public Health.
