Earlier this month the Maternal and Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) hosted a Valentine’s Day Sexual Health tabling event to promote sexual well-being and self-care. The event brought students together by providing information about sexual health resources available at Drexel University and Philadelphia at-large, while providing free goodies to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

“I had a lot of fun engaging with students I don’t normally get to see as a grad student!” said Carol Li, a first-year MPH student in the Health Management & Policy concentration, currently serving as the MCHSO Fundraising Chair. “I really enjoyed the process of creating a welcoming space for open dialogue and bonding with my fellow officers and students over candid conversations about sexual health.”
At the table, students were provided with various informational flyers about sexual health resources available on campus and around the city, as well as some useful statistics about sexual health.
Students also picked up self-care goodie bags prepared by MCHSO, including wellness items such as flavored lip balm, scented hand lotion, condoms, dental dams, Valentine’s Day cards, stickers, journals, and pens.

Students claimed over thirty goodie bags, clearing the table by the end of the event. The conversations generated at the table reflected a strong interest in engaging not only with self-care and sexual well-being, but with maternal and child health care initiatives as a whole.
“Students really seemed to appreciate the gesture of the goodie bags,” said Manya Mittal, a fourth-year undergraduate student in the 4+1 BS/MPH program. She is pursuing her MPH in Epidemiology with a minor in Maternal and Child Health and serves as the MCHSO Event Coordinator.
“The event sparked the opportunity for conversation, not only about Valentine’s festivities and promoting sexual health, but also what MCHSO is all about as an organization!” added Manya.
To learn more about MCHSO or get involved, students can follow the group on on Instagram @Drexel_mchso or request to join the group on Dragonlink. MCHSO welcomes all students with an interest in maternal and child health to participate in future events and initiatives. We hope to see you at the next event!
