This month Drexel's Maternal and Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) co-hosted a Finals Week Stress Relief Event with the Graduate Student Association (GSA). The event brought together students to de-stress and paint with other students.
Attendees were able to paint, chat, and indulge in snacks, popcorn, and drinks during their time with MCHSO. Guests represented a variety of artistic skills and expressions and explored creativity in a relaxed environment.
Students used this as an opportunity to reconnect with peers from the Dornsife School of Public Health and the broader Drexel University community.
"Our best effort comes when we take care of our physical and mental health." - MCHSO Vice President Bengucan Gunen
Attendees were encouraged to participate in the stress-relief activities, as finals were approaching. The pressure of academics and life can take a toll on our mental health, and MCHSO wanted to create an event that reminds students that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. By providing these resources and fostering an open conversation, we hope to normalize prioritizing well-being.
Reflecting on the event, MCHSO Vice President Bengucan Gunen shared, “This was such a great opportunity to take a break and connect with students from so many different programs, both graduate and undergraduate, at Drexel. Our best effort comes when we take care of our physical and mental health—not when we push ourselves to burn out by ignoring those essential aspects of well-being."
"I’ll be keeping the canvas I painted and hanging it up in my cubicle as a reminder of the importance of balance,” Gunen added.
Students expressed interest in future wellness-focused initiatives. MCHSO officers also took the opportunity to promote upcoming initiatives, including a t-shirt design competition with the winner to be announced during National Public Health Week 2025.
