MCHSO Creates Handwritten Holiday Cards for Local Philadelphia Residents
January 4, 2023
'Tis the season the be jolly, and the students of Drexel’s Maternal and Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) were happy to spread holiday cheer to families in West and South Philly this year.
The students created more than 100 personalized holiday cards during the end of the fall quarter.
"MCHSO members were pleased to be able to offer some sense of camaraderie to community members this year with handwritten cards." – Markolline Forkpa, 2022 MCHSO President
The cards were then distributed to community members via Grab-n-Flow free personal care sheds.
Grab-n-Flow is a community-based distribution project that was started by Shelley Aragoncillo after learning the challenges menstruating persons in these communities face with limited means to purchase personal care items.
The sheds stay open 24/7, and those with need, may stop by for access to free menstrual and post-partum hygiene products (tampons, pads, adult diapers, perineal ice packs, etc.).
The open sheds are stocked with necessities for people who menstruate or are pregnant.
"It's something we take for granted, both ease of access to hygiene products, and the feeling of Community during the holiday season," said Markolline Forkpa, 2022 MCHSO President.
The cards were placed in the sheds in December and hopefully brought smiles to visitors and their families during the holiday season.
"MCHSO members were pleased to be able to offer some sense of camaraderie to community members this year with handwritten cards," said Forkpa.
