The Maternal and Child Health Student Organization Kicks of the Fall Quarter Providing Students with Resources Related to Protecting Reproductive Rights
September 30, 2022
The Maternal and Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) kicked off the 2022 Fall Quarter by hosted a tabling event, “Protecting Our Rights After Roe,” during Week 2 in the Nesbitt Lobby.
MCHSO officers provided resources for students related to reproductive rights and access to care, both integral to public health and the maternal and child health field.
"It was amazing to be able to interact with such a wide variety of Drexel students that are passionate about the things that our student organization is doing, but more importantly about maternal and child health. We had enriching conversations with almost every student that stopped by or interacted with us." - Vishwa Patel, MCHSO Events Coordinator
Additionally, as elections are upcoming, officers used the trivia wheel to further highlight how access to care is at risk at levels of government this upcoming November and how important it for students to do their own research and vote.
The table was visited by both 1st and 2nd year public health master's students, as well as doctoral students and undergraduates. MCHSO hopes the information provided will be valuable to students both with respect to their own reproductive health choices, but also when considering programs and policies that may impact the reproductive health choices of others.
“It was amazing to be able to interact with such a wide variety of Drexel students that are passionate about the things that our student organization is doing, but more importantly about maternal and child health. We had enriching conversations with almost every student that stopped by or interacted with us," said Vishwa Patel, MCHSO Events Coordinator.
Continued Patel, "As MCHSO officers, to hear that students were excited and eagerly waiting for our event to happen motivates us for our future events and we are excited about the work that we all will do towards creating more awareness for maternal and child health at Drexel.”
MCHSO also provided information about the student group and its mission and was thrilled to welcome new members. Flyers with upcoming events, including group participation in an upcoming breast cancer awareness walk, trivia events with prizes, journal clubs, and more, were also available.
MCHSO is very excited to begin the Fall Quarter and provide fun and engaging opportunities for students interested in maternal and child health.
