Professor Rickards comes to higher education with over a decade of experience in the criminal justice field. Her graduate research explored racial disparities in urban juvenile drug use patterns. Currently, she is enrolled in Drexel’s School of Education working toward a Doctorate in Education Leadership.
Professor Rickards develops and teaches community-based learning courses and coordinates community-outreach for the College of Arts and Sciences. Her current research includes the affect of civic engagement in student and faculty course experiences. She has presented nationally and internationally on the Side-By-Side and community-based hybrid course pedagogy she has developed while at Drexel.
In addition to her interest in community-based learning, Professor Rickards is interested in the relationship between technology, alternative assessment and ePortfolios. She recently wrote and piloted an iPad pilot program. She coordinates the ePortfolio in the Criminal Justice Program and has presented her initiative at numerous conferences.
