This year, students and faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences explored the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences through interdisciplinary research, creative projects, experiential events and more. 2024 provided new opportunities for innovation and collaboration, like the Arts and Sciences Symposium and the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Support (ASURS) Fund, and saw the return of the college’s signature events including Honors Day and Research Day. The Arts and Sciences Innovation Incubator brings together faculty members in diverse areas of expertise to collaborate on research projects that find creative ways to address some of our society's most challenging obstacles.
The Department of Physics welcomed NASA astrophysicist Knicole Colón, PhD, to deliver the 2024 Kaczmarczik Lecture. Nearly 300 students from Drexel University and local high schools attended the lecture and participated in a science fair.
The College of Arts and Sciences partnered with the College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Professions and Dornsife School of Public Health to present the 2024 Arts and Sciences Symposium: The Race to Health Equity, highlighting the important work that Drexel and its partners, like Johnson & Johnson, are doing in this space to better serve our communities.
The College of Arts and Sciences hosted its annual Honors Day to give our faculty, staff and alumni an opportunity to honor our students’ achievements in the classroom, lab and community. Over 100 awards were distributed at this year’s Honors Day, underscoring the value of the scholarship and research that our students are conducting in the college year after year.
The College of Arts and Sciences hosted its annual Research Day to celebrate the diverse scholarly activity taking place across our college. This year's program included 20 oral presentations and over 70 posters from tenured, tenure-track, teaching and research faculty; postdoctoral fellows; graduate and undergraduate students; and research trainees and staff.
Biological sciences major Michael Minkovsky represented the class of 2024 as the student speaker at the College of Arts and Sciences commencement ceremony. Author and entrepreneur Lisa Kastner shared her knowledge and advice with the class of 2024 as the keynote speaker.
The new podcast series, "On the Map," reconnects with alumni from the department as they share more about their career journeys and reflect on their time at Drexel.
The College of Arts and Sciences introduced three new minors for academic year 2024-25: Crime Analysis and Digital Investigations, Environmental Sociology and European Studies.
The College of Arts and Sciences welcomed six new faculty members to our learning community this academic year. These accomplished scholars drive discovery and collaboration across disciplines and will serve as dedicated mentors to their students.
Students in the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Support (ASURS) Fund work on a variety of hands-on research and scholarship with a faculty or PhD candidate mentor. By participating in ASURS, students gain vital skills through field experiences, laboratory settings and special workshops on using qualitative data, statistical analysis, preparing a case study, conducting community outreach projects — and so much more.
