Shatakshi Tyagi, BS computer science '27, received the Best Presenter Award at the Spring/Summer 2024 PECO Co-op Day. Tyagi, a student in Drexel’s College of Computing & Informatics, showcased two projects involving large language models (LLM), generative AI and machine learning to develop an AI-powered tool, along with data analysis and visualization using Microsoft Power Automate, Power Query and Power BI to build an interactive dashboard.
She applied these cutting-edge technologies to real-world problems to see their potential effects while working on Co-op at Exelon in spring and summer 2024.
Tyagi said the goal of her Co-op experience was to dive deeper into machine learning and data science to solidify her future career path. During a sixth-month span, the two projects allowed her to explore various aspects of the field. She gained a clearer understanding of the challenges she wants to tackle in the future and the kind of work that excites her.
When Tyagi first started, she said she had minimal hands-on experience and mostly theoretical knowledge.
“It was a steep learning curve, but a fascinating one,” she said.
Tyagi is thankful she did not have to do it alone, crediting “the invaluable mentorship of Chris Le, Vladyslav Anderson, PE, and Michael Warren, who guided me every step of the way.”
Beyond the technical skills, Tyagi said she has grown in creativity, curiosity and confidence.
