Second Year (Sophomore) Housing Overview

The 2018/19 housing application for returning/transfer students for Drexel Residence Halls is closed.

Students who wish to cancel a 2018/19 active housing application may submit a request via housing@drexel.edu. As a courtesy, University Housing is waiving 2018/19 cancellation fees for students that submit a Request for Release Form [PDF] by Thursday, May 31, 2018.

As a reminder, Second Year (sophomore) students must choose one of the following housing options:

  • University-Affiliated Housing (operated by American Campus Communities), or
  • A Drexel fraternity or sorority house (invitation from the organization required)

Implemented in 2011, Drexel's 2-Year Residency Program was developed to provide First Year (freshmen) and Second Year (sophomore) students a wide range of learning and lifestyle housing options to customize their Drexel living experience.

HOUSING EXEMPTION REQUESTS

A Second Year (sophomore) student with a permanent address within a 10-mile radius (click here for PDF of zip codes) of the University City campus who wish to reside with a family member or legal guardian and commute to campus must complete a "Housing Exemption" form. This form is available in DrexelOne by clicking on the Housing link.

COMPLIANCE

Second Year (sophomore) students who fail or refuse to comply with the 2-Year Residency Program and/or furnish false information to a university official or office will be assessed a housing charge equivalent to two academic quarters, posted to their student account at the beginning of week seven of the spring quarter during the student's second year. Non-compliant students will be charged the double-occupancy, suite-style rate within the applicable assessment year.

EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES

The University recognizes that there may be times when serious adverse circumstances, beyond a student's direct control, may occur. If you are experiencing an extenuating circumstance preventing you from complying with the 2-Year Residency Program, please submit the 2-Year Residency Program Exemption Request noting 'Other' as your reason and provide additional information regarding your extenuating circumstance in the text box provided.

CO-OP STUDENTS

A Second Year (sophomore) student who secures co-op outside of a 10-mile radius of the University City Campus AND opts to live outside of a 10-mile radius of the University City Campus must register their housing location. To register, visit DrexelOne, click on the Campus + Community tab, then the Housing link and complete the "2nd Year Housing Location Registration" form. University Housing will then confirm the location of the co-op with the student's co-op advisor.

STUDY ABROAD

A Second Year (sophomore) student who secures a study abroad opportunity must register their housing location. To register, visit DrexelOne, click on the Campus + Community tab, then the Housing link and complete the "2nd Year Housing Location Registration" form. University Housing will then confirm the study abroad status with student's advisor.
