On GivingTuesday, Join Drexel's Fight Against Food Insecurity

Dear Colleagues,

On this GivingTuesday, I am inspired by Drexel faculty and professional staff, like you, who are making a positive difference in your communities even in the most challenging times. As many of you give to causes close to your heart today, I hope you will consider supporting some of the University's vital work in combating food insecurity — an urgent problem made even more acute by the coronavirus pandemic.

All day, we will shine the spotlight on four Drexel programs that directly help local families and our own students who are struggling with hunger and food insecurity. These programs embody Drexel's commitment to provide students from all backgrounds the resources they need to thrive, and to care for the communities around us.

  • Launched this year, Mario's Market is Drexel's first on-campus food pantry, and it provides nonperishable food items to any student in need.
  • The Student Meal Swipe Donation Program provides students facing food insecurity with free meal swipes into the student dining hall without requiring a meal plan.
  • Now in its 47th year, the Alumni Turkey Project — Drexel's longest standing alumni tradition — provides holiday meals for families in the Philadelphia area.
  • The Emergency Fund for Families at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children supplies basic items, including groceries, to patient families who live in poverty and are particularly vulnerable to the health and economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Please join me in making a gift today to one or more of these programs to support Drexel's fight against food insecurity. Your generosity will provide relief to a student or neighbor who needs help, and further Drexel's impact as a force for good in our community.

Thank you, as always, for everything you do for Drexel.

Sincerely,

John Fry
President
