In Preparation for Drexel Health, All Faculty/Professional Staff Must Complete License Self-Reporting Survey

Dear Colleagues,

As we move forward in creating Drexel Health, a new structure that will bring together the management of our clinical operations across the University, we have launched a process to assess the core and clinical activity at all of Drexel’s clinics, as well as the resources they need to operate successfully. This assessment will help to ensure that we are respecting the differences of each college, school or unit and not taking a “one size fits all” approach in creating this structure. As part of this effort, all faculty and professional staff must complete a license self-reporting survey by July 1, 2024.

As noted in an April 19 message to the Drexel community, Drexel Health will not only help to better support our clinical practice and instruction, but it will also promote greater collaboration among all students and faculty in the health professions — creating more clinical research opportunities and, importantly, better patient outcomes. While most of our clinical operations are within the College of Medicine, College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Nursing and Health Professions, other colleges, divisions and institutes with a limited clinical presence will also be part of the University-wide clinical structure.

Until the Drexel Health structure is fully established, Salus University clinical operations will transition into the College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Professions effective July 1, 2024. The Eye Institute will remain within the College of Optometry. For the foreseeable future, the Pennsylvania Ear Institute and Speech Language Institute will follow their respective academic programs.

The proposed Clinical Integration model mirrors the already successful collaboration between the College of Medicine and the Division of Student Success for the Student Health Center. Through this model, a joint leadership team meets weekly to monitor and manage operations.

Bringing all clinics together will also establish consistent protocols and compliance policies for researchers and clinical staff. However, there is a need to better understand the scope of clinical research and to ensure all research faculty and professional staff are following uniform regulatory standards. To that end, certain compliance standards, such as verification of provider licensure, will be implemented as a first step in the process.

While our goal is to phase all Drexel clinics into the Drexel Health structure by July 1, 2025, the licensure verification process will need to be completed by the time of the anticipated merger of the Salus clinical operations with Drexel this summer.
