Message Regarding the Closing of The University of the Arts in Philadelphia
Dear Members of the Drexel Community,
We learned on Friday afternoon that the University of the Arts in Philadelphia (UArts) will be closing this week. UArts has been an important part of Philadelphia’s higher education landscape for more than 100 years, and its unexpected and sudden closure has affected so many of our colleagues throughout the arts community. Many of our faculty members and professional staff have close ties to the university. To all those who are feeling the impact of this unfortunate development, on behalf of the entire Drexel community, I offer my sympathy and support.
Drexel’s leadership has been in close contact with UArts to offer our assistance to the UArts community and especially the students who can no longer continue their studies at the institution. As a university dedicated to helping aspiring learners throughout the Philadelphia region, we are committed to supporting students currently enrolled or just starting their college experience at UArts as they consider the next step in their educational careers. Our Enrollment Management team will offer individual counseling sessions and connections to academic representatives. Drexel will fully guide students interested in attending our University and their families through this transition to ensure clarity through the admissions and financial aid process.
We have reached out to our Middle States Commission on Higher Education representative to ensure that they are aware of our willingness to work to create a pathway program that will help UArts students continue their education as seamlessly as possible during this challenging time of transition, and will allow them to stay on track and finish their degree at Drexel.
I ask that all faculty, professional staff and students extend a warm welcome to UArts students who may be coming to Drexel under these unusual and unfortunate circumstances. If you receive any inquiries about the pathway program for UArts students, please direct them to Josh Jaquins at jj395@drexel.edu or enroll@drexel.edu.
Sincerely,
John Fry
President
