Keeping Drexel's Virtual Spaces Free from Hate, Intolerance

Dear Members of the Drexel Community,

Over the past week, there have been two instances of Zoom bombing, when an unwanted attendee abused the virtual space for dialogue and shared racial slurs and symbols of hate. These appalling incidents are being investigated by the Drexel University Police Department (DUPD), Information Technology and the Office of Equality and Diversity (OED).

It is unacceptable that our students and guests had to endure this offensive and inexcusable behavior displayed during their meetings.  Drexel University encourages free speech and robust dialogue, but we do not tolerate antisemitism, racism, harassment or violence of any kind.

The University encourages anyone who has been affected by or witnessed any discrimination, harassment or bias incident, including Zoom bombings, to immediately report the incident to OED by calling 215.895.1405 or emailing oed@drexel.edu at any time. For emergencies, contact DUPD at 215.895.2222. DUPD will share these reports with OED.

In order for us to do our best to maintain a safe and educational environment in our virtual setting, we have to remember to put safeguards in place for Zoom meetings. Read more about best practices and how to secure your Zoom sessions at the following Drexel IT links:

Thank you all for your continued efforts and support in navigating the remote educational environment.

Sincerely,

John Fry
