STEAM Workshop 2018
Since our opening in 2013, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics) has been at the foundation of our efforts to inspire transdisciplinary research and discovery connecting technology and communities. We believe the framework of STEAM offers the greatest potential for advancing learning at all levels. But at ExCITe, STEAM is more than education. It’s the belief that the creativity and “maker” spirit that is common to both the Arts & Design and the STEM fields provides a relentless source of inspiration and innovation. Most importantly, the convening of diverse perspectives spanning STEM and the Arts offers unique opportunities to share ideas, form new connections, and sow the seeds of transformation.
The fourth annual STEAM Education Workshop will take place on February 19, 2018 at the ExCITe Center. We'll have case study speakers including Dr. Kareem Edouard speaking about the Learning Innovation National Maker Space Survey, as well as our keynote speaker Dr. Paula Hooper.
Case study presenters will include:
Kareem Edouard, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Drexel ExCITe
Debora Lui, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Penn GSE
Tanya Ruley-Mayo, Chief Operating Officer Education, Education Works
Students, Centennial School District
Meredith Martin, Technology Coordinator, Science Leadership Academy Middle School
Paula Hooper is an assistant professor of instruction in the Master of Science in Education program and Learning Sciences. She received her PhD from the MIT Media Lab. Her research addresses how children come to understand computational ideas from a sociocultural perspective and how to support educators in the design of learning environments that use digital tools to engage all learners in learning through making.
